Overview
The Frenchtown Charter Township Recreation Department is dedicated to improve the quality of life in the community by providing a diversified range of services to meet the recreational needs of the public, and by providing and preserving open space and parkland for all to enjoy. Current programs for youth and adults include: tee ball, softball, baseball, tennis, tot lot program, golf, martial arts and track& field. The Recreation Department also hosts Easter, Halloween and Christmas parties open to all Frenchtown Residents.
The Recreation Department consist of a Recreation Commission, Recreation Director and a professional staff of directors who coordinate leagues, programs, and special events with the support of seasonal employees, such as scorekeepers, game officials and playground leaders. Youth sports coaches, adult sports coaches and special events/activity coordinators also play a big role in the success of our programs.
Most spring/summer programs/leagues are held outdoors in the township parks or school facilities. The scheduling of recreation programs is handled through the Recreation Department. Permits for use of park facilities is handled through the Clerks Office, Monday through Friday.
Park facilities consist of athletic fields, picnic shelters, walking path, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, bocci ball court, sledding hill, playground equipment, archery range and volleyball courts. In door programs are coordinated by the Recreation Department in cooperation with local schools.
The Frenchtown Recreation Commission also maintains a Recreation Center building where year round programming is provided by the staff of the Frenchtown Senior Center, which offers a wide variety of programs. The Senior Center is located on Vivian Road next to the Frenchtown Charter Township Hall.
